Sarah Wilkins illustration (http://www.sarahwilkins.net/)
Just came to think of what I read in 'IN THE STARS' column in a Sunday paper.
'Usually when you're facing difficulties, you'll think things through and reach a conclusion about the best course of action. However, in several of the complex situations you - and the world around you - are facing, analysis achieves nothing. That's because the changes are taking you into new territory. As a result, you're far better off relying on your institution than even in-depth analysis.'
taken from Style magazine, The Sunday Times 08/08 2010
It's almost been my ritual to read TST. I soon realised that my ambition to read the whole package page to page on a Sunday has got to come to a halt. Usually after a quick glance through the broadsheets, I head straight to the Style mag to pinch some idea of the current trends with hidden jealousy. Then passionately, I manage to flip through every page from cover to cover like a hungry caterpillar until the very end of the stars column - that's where I gain a weekly perspective on life, my life. Pathetic, I'm now a true believer. A true believer with her own judgement though - take what she wants to believe and ditch the rest.
This piece was not intended to be in English. It reveals that I can't help but sound cynical when writing in English. It somehow seems so natural to be that way.
An unsuitable traveller - missing home when away, longing to be away when at home.
