Notes from A Small Island

~ My first oil portrait ~ 

去年十二月開始上油畫，數週前老師教我們畫人像，這是我的第一幅人像畫，以前從沒接觸過。

這幅算完成了，完成的定義是：暫時不想幫他補妝了。

幫他補了很多次妝，現在他的妝已經厚到初學的我無法改善，所以也是停筆的時候。

這位【堅毅老人】看來挺滄桑的，臉上的皺紋不少，還有老人斑，灰白濃密的鬍鬚更是挑戰。

剛看了臺北市天文館有關100年的百分百中秋月圓的報導，才知道今年中秋節恰逢滿月；滿月在天文學上稱為「望」，也就是地球在月亮和太陽之間，三者在同一平面上的時刻，中秋節望的時刻發生在12日下午17時27分，17時43分月亮在東方地平就冉冉升起，今年的中秋明月是名符其實的團圓月，月圓百分百。書寫這篇文章的此刻正是台灣時間觀望圓月的好時機呢，希望大家今天都能看到圓月，心圓事也圓。

也因為看到這則新聞才提醒了自己，今天也是我的生日 -- 農曆生日。其實並不是真的忘了，只是人在他鄉，過中秋的氣氛本來就淡，加上與我有生日禮節往來的朋友多半慶祝我的國曆生日，因此這中秋＋生日的連結也就暫擱一旁了。

本來想低調，生日也不過是365天中的一天而已。不過現在既然知道今年中秋恰好滿月的消息，就趁此良機許個心願，希望皎潔的月光能照亮前路，諾大的圓月能帶來圓滿順遂。

輕輕祝福自己～ 生日快樂！！ 加油囉！！

上週六開始我們這裡陸陸續續下起雪來, 雖然地上有些積雪,交通尚可通行。

但昨天下午開始飄雪不斷, 累積的雪量驚人, 惡劣的天候造成交通癱瘓, 許多學校今天都停課了。

早上想到住家附近湖區走走跟拍照, 一踏出家門才驚覺, 昨夜的積雪高度之深 ~ ~ 已達我的小腿。

During the school half-term friends came to stay with us and we went to The Deep and York.  

Here are some photos and video clips of our trip to The Deep Aquarium.

I think everyone will love this aquarium without a doubt, I strongly recommend it, especially for kids and families. 

These are the first sea creatures we see - look at the starfish, so desperate to be with the visitors.  

What a spectacular view!  多采多姿的水底世界

What have I been up to?  Can't believe that my last post was like months ago.....

Right, a quick update before 2010 arrives.  I began taking a drawing class from October this year and I enjoy it enormously - it has certainly been an eye-opening experience for me.  I made some new friends, mostly silver-tops, and went on to work at a charity Christmas card shop.  Then in December I  enrolled on a challenging exam preparatory course (DPSI - Diploma in Public Service Interpreting). It turns out to be a bit tortuous, but I've made my bed and I'll have to lie in it. 

Just to show you some of my drawings - a complete beginner's drawing pieces........
